The bridal towel cake is a fantastic way to present the bride with some lovely bathroom and bath accessories. A bridal shower towel cake is not only a beautiful decoration, a social icebreaker and conversation topic, but also a unique way to give a present(s) that gets a lot of smiles. It's also incredibly simple to make; even for the DIY-challenged (I shall not mention names...)
You can try any design you like, the most standard is the 3 tier circular pyramid design. Here's how you do it:
Some things you will require to make 1 bridal shower towel cake are (double up on the "ingredients" if you want to do 2 or more):
•2 towel sets - i.e. 2 bath towels, 2 hand towels and 2 wash cloths. For a larger cake you can double up on towels.
•Colored satin ribbon to contrast the towel color. Get larger widths for the larger towels and a smaller width for the smaller towels.
•Safety pins
•A bag of faux rose petals of a color to compliment or contrast the towels.
•Bath products
•Some other accessories which you can use to experiment with are: silk flowers, lace, daisies, leaves, wired floral ribbon, petals, ribbon roses, satin bows, baby's breath, figurines, cake toppers, string pearls, foil covered cardboard bases, quartz and other semi-precious gemstones...
How to make a bridal shower towel cake:
1) To get started take the length of a bath towel and fold it in half twice, repeat with the other bath towel. (The larger bath towels will form the base of the cake.)
2) Start with one end (and if you like place a bottle of bath or massage oil at the beginning - not only a nice surprise for the bride but it can help you to roll the towels), then roll the bath towel up (with the bottle of bath oil inside). When the one length is finished continue rolling (encircling) with the remaining bath towel (you can use a safety pin to join the 2 lengths of towels and to hold the finished design together before beginning step 3).
3) Cut a length of your satin ribbon and tie it around the bath towels (covering/hiding the safety pins) finishing with a bow or however you desire.
4) Repeat steps 1, 2, and 3, twice with both the hand towels and the wash cloths (also placing some other bathroom goodies inside, if you like).
5) Stack the layers on top of each other to give you the three layers of your Bridal Shower Towel Cake. For an additional effect, and support, you can make some foil covered round cardboard bases and place them between the layers.
6) Now, if you like, you can embellish the bridal towel cake with some silk flowers, a sprinkling of rose petals, baby's breath, lace etc. it's your party.
Et voila!
